'Aus gut gelagerten Flaschen(mehrfach 2012 und 2013) ist das aber immer noch ein großer, perfekt gereifter Pauillac mit der klassischen Mouton-Aromatik aus Cassis, Minze, Sattelleder und Bleistift ohne spürbares Alter – 94/100. 2015 „lovely and charming“ – WT94. Und noch 2mal 2015 bei Elke Drescher und auf unserer Mouton-Vertikale ein sehr eleganter, feiner, immer noch so frischer, typischer Mouton mit Cassis, Minze, Bleistift und Sattelleder – WT94. 2017 wieder ein betörender Traum mit feiner Frucht – WT94. 2020 wieder so jung, verführerisch und frisch, „tout Mouton“ – WT95.'

'The rich, complex, well-developed bouquet of oriental spices, toasty oak, herbs, and ripe fruit is wonderful. On the palate, the wine is also rich, forward, long, and sexy. It ranks behind both Haut-Brion and Chateau Margaux in 1985. I am surprised by how evolved and ready to drink this wine is. Readers looking for a big, boldly constructed Mouton should search out other vintages, as this is a tame, forward, medium-weight wine that is close to full maturity. It is capable of lasting another 15+ years. This estate compares their 1985 to their 1959, but to me it is more akin to their 1962 or 1953.'

Chateau Mouton Rothschild reiht sich mühelos in die Galerie der ganz großen Weine unserer Zeit ein. Auf den ersten Schluck zeigt er sich erstaunlich zurückhaltend, dann aber überwältigt er mit gebieterischer Ausdruckskraft, enormer Vielschichtigkeit, opulenter Körperfülle und immenser Länge. Das Potenzial ist meist gewaltig.
