'Put your seat belts on ... light the candles ... and crank up the music when you taste this wine. It is not so much that it is a superior wine, it's just that it is so unbelievably hedonistic, fat, rich, and flamboyant that it is hard to ignore. I suspect a vintage such as this comes along in Piedmont once or twice a century. Enjoy this wine for its splendid ripeness and exotic, over the top personality. The 1997 Barolo Pajana boasts a stunningly riveting nose of black raspberry liqueur, creamy ice cream, toasty oak, licorice, and truffle scents. There is terrific fruit intensity, great purity, and a full-bodied, unctuous texture; it is a whoppingly big, impeccably well-balanced and vinified wine that should be at its best in 2-3 years, and last for two decades. One of the most gifted winemakers in Piedmont, Domenico Clerico has fashioned this riveting wine from the vineyards surrounding the village of Monforte d'Alba. Clerico utilizes rotary fermenters, and new oak. This a wine of extraordinary richness, amazing aromatics, and a sensual personality that satiates both the hedonistic and intellectual senses.'

'Deep red. Explosive, vibrant aromas of black cherry, dried flowers, minerals, licorice and spices. Rich yet delicate, with precise, juicy flavors of superb intensity. A floral nuance adds complexity. Finishes with extremely fine tannins. Beautifully balanced wine, and showing extremely well today.'
