95/100 WS \'Displays intense aromas of red plum and dark cherry, with finely chiseled flavors to match that are joined by briary notes and hints of mint, savory herb and Asian spice. The long, lush and powerful finish is quite creamy. An elegant red.\' 92/100 PP \'The 2005 TINTO is another success for Noval, still an infant in the table wine business. It is 40% Touriga Nacional (a big decrease from the 70% in the 2004 version of this wine), 10% Tinto Cao and 50% Touriga Franca. Powerful, pointed and focused, this nonetheless is a more elegant and refined wine than the 2004, with the graceful mid-palates so many Douro 2005s possess and a little lower alcohol reading (13.5% vs. 14 on the 2004). On the other hand, many will appreciate the greater depth on the ’04, granting that it is not as complete a wine as the ’05. It will be interesting to see if this 2005 is the style Noval wants—or if it is more a reflection of taking what the vintage offered in each case. One caveat: Both at the winery and at home, I noted that this developed rather funky nuances with air. I did not personally find it too troublesome, but it might not be to everyone’s taste.
